Description

EnviZyme Recover is a stable consortium of acid producing microorganisms, which are used to recover valuable metals from ores via bioleaching. The cultures in EnviZyme Recover are aerobic, acidophilic iron and sulphur compound-oxidizing species. The bacteria contained in Recover can attack sulphide-containing minerals and convert insoluble sulphides of metals such as copper and zinc into their soluble metal sulphates which leads to improved metal recovery. EnviZyme Recover is tolerant to a wide temperature range, and can leach sulphide ores at heap temperatures as low as 15 degrees Celsius and as high as 95 degrees Celsius, which simplifies the control systems required on active leach pads.

Application

Bio-mining operations utilize indigenous microbes as a means of ore recovery . Bacterial leaching of copper and bio oxidation of refractory gold concentrates are carried on using heaps and tank reactors. Mineral ores are submerged in the acidic solution, which contain indigenous micro-organisms. EnviZyme Recover assists in this process by utilizing selectively highly adapted strains of acidophilic cultures enhanced with inducers to accelerate the process. EnviZyme Recover can be added during these processes at a rate dependent upon the volume of the systems.

Optimum conditions for use

The bacteria in EnviZyme Recover perform within a pH range of between 6.5 and 9.0, with optimum activity near a pH of 7.5. Temperature affects the growth rate of the bacterial population and activity improves with a temperature of between 37°C and 38°C (99°F to 100°F). No appreciable activity can be expected below 5°C (40°F) and above 40°C (104°F).

Preparation

Mining operations have their own unique process systems in place, a site plan and flow chart would be necessary in order to evaluate the best possible treatment program.

Storage and handling

Store in a cool dry place at room temperature. The recommended storage temperature is within a range of 1°C and 23°C (34°F to 73°F). Avoid excessive inhalation. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water after handling.
